Despite heavy criticism, 2014's Need for Speed film adaptation did pretty well at the box office, pulling in over $200 million worldwide on a $60 million budget. As a result, EA is working on developing a sequel to the film.

The film is reportedly being made in partnership China Movie Channel Program Center, and will also be filmed primarily in China.

“We are excited to work with EA, one of the world’s most recognized creative companies,” said China Movie Channel chairman Yin Cao. “We are also delighted that much of Need for Speed 2 would be filmed in China, and we believe it will include much more Chinese talent and elements.”

This does not necessarily mean that the film is officially greenlit, however, as the rights to the film are still held by Dreamworks, who would need to sign off on the film before it proceeds with development.

No word yet on whether or not Aaron Paul and Michael Keaton, stars of the first film, are slated to return.
