Doom Single & Multiplayer Premiered, Information Blowout

Bethesda kicked off its first ever E3 press conference by showing off lots of footage for its upcoming title Doom, which is set to be the first new Doom game in over 10 years.

Two sections of the single player campaign were shown - a factory level and a 'Hell' level. The gameplay shown off in these segments is far closer to the original Doom games than it is to Doom 3. It features fast-paced gun-fighting and brutal takedowns.

Many familiar weapons make a return, including the chainsaw, double-barrelled shotgun, rocket launcher, plasma rifle, and the BFG. Not seen in other games in the series is a double jump ability, as well as the ability to climb up ledges and perform melee executions.

Bethesda also gave everyone a brief look at multiplayer for Doom. Three specific game modes were announced - Domination, Freeze Tag, and Clan Arena. The multiplayer is reminiscent of another ID Software game, Quake 3 Arena.

The new Doom will also come with a level and scenario editor, which is being called Snapmap. Players will be able to build their own levels for single player as well as multiplayer. All of the custom built levels can then be uploaded for anyone to play.

Doom is coming out in the spring of 2016 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
