I've been playing with my friends for some time, now. Despite being a finalist at university, I've managed to rack up around 250 hours in the last two months or so. The three of us all play different positions, and I think that this is key when selecting your signature skills. For example, as a PG, my friend plays with skills such as floor general, dimer and alley-oop, as a SF, the other uses things such as defensive anchor, scrapper etc. and as a SG, I use things such as Dead-Eye, spot up shooter or finisher. Your position definitely dictates what skill set to take up.
