Final Fantasy XII Not Getting Remastered After All

It looks as though a remake/remaster of Final Fantasy XII is not underway at Square Enix, at least not officially.

As we reported yesterday, Final Fantasy Distant Worlds composer Arnie Roth stated during a concert that a remaster or remake of the PlayStation 2 classic was in the works. However, he has since posted on the official Final Fantasy Distant Worlds Facebook page to clear things up and dash our hopes:

"Dear friends,

In response to comments posted by fans, I want to rectify a statement made from the stage Saturday night at our Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY concert in Pittsburgh.

Following conversations with composer Hitoshi Sakimoto regarding new concert arrangements of music from FINAL FANTASY XII, regrettably, the term ‘remake’ was used in error during one of the announcements that took place from the stage during the concert.

We sincerely regret any confusion this has caused."

So unfortunately it doesn't look as though Square Enix is officially working on a Final Fantasy XII remake or remaster at this time. Perhaps the positive reception of the Final Fantasy X remaster as well as the positive buzz that this rumour of a Final Fantasy XII remake/remaster has generated will prompt the company to reconsider.
