Evolution Studios has been acquired by Codemasters, following the former being closed by Sony last month.
The news was announced this morning via GamesIndustry, which describes the deal as landmark and allowing for the formation of a UK racing powerhouse, and you'd be hard-pressed to argue against that given the wealth of racing experience between the two - from GRID and DiRT to MotorStorm and Driveclub.
As a result of the deal most of Evolution's staff will now retain their jobs and the studio will essentially continue on as before, albeit now within the Codemasters family. The team has been charged with developing a brand new racing IP. Evolution co-founder Mick Hocking has also been made Codemasters' vice president of product development.
