PopCap Studios, the developers behind the massively successful Plants vs. Zombies series of games, have been hit with an undisclosed number of layoffs, the studio confirmed in a statement today to Polygon.
This comes after EA shut down the Vancouver branch of PopCap, which was another big blow to the industry following a series of closures and job cuts in recent months, with many employees losing their jobs.
This is a shame when you consider that PopCap thrived with 500 employees for years, but after its recent acquisition by EA we're now seeing employee layoffs after projects have finished. It's a worrying trend that's emerging, and one we all hope doesn't continue for too long as we may lose a great deal of talent in the industry.
