Setting

Guild Wars 2 takes place exactly 250 years after the events of Guild Wars Nightfall. Elder Dragons have woke throughout the last 200 years, and their enormity and power have greatly changed the world. When they rose they twisted the earth, shattered mountains, and created great tidal waves. This rise of the Elder Dragons also forced the Norn and Asura from their homelands, requiring them to settle in new territories.

Races

Guild Wars 2 features five playable races, which differs greatly from Guild Wars, which only allowed players to be humans. The playable races are the Humans, Norn, Asura, Charr, and Sylvari. While most of the playable races had been seen in Guild Wars before, their roles and lore have been greatly expanded for the sequel, and the Sylvari are an entirely new race created for the game.

There are currently 31 maps to explore, each with a set of tasks and objectives to complete. Upon 100% completion of each map you will receive various rewards; the rarity of the rewards scale with the difficulty of the map.
