Mercenary Kings is a 2D side-scrolling action game developed by Tribute Games. It's a kickstarter funded project that is set to release in 2014 for both Windows and the Playstation 4. An early access version of Mercenary Kings was released on Steam in July of 2013.
A once sublime place called Mandragora Island became a laboratory for the Mandrake Project, which can read living cells and replicate them. Now, a group known as C.L.A.W. has stolen the Mandrake formula and kidnapped one of its proprietors, Dr. Neil. It's up to the player to avenge their fallen teammates and stop C.L.A.W. from using the Mandrake formula for their nefarious plans.

Gameplay
Mercenary Kings is a 4-player cooperative side-scrolling run-'n-gun shooter in the vein of classic arcade shoot-em-ups such as Contra and Metal Slug. An early access version has been on Steam since July of 2013, giving players the ability to play through some of the game.
Weapon Parts/Upgrades
The highlight of Mercenary Kings is the ability to mix and match parts for your guns, with there being six different categories. In addition to guns, the player will also be able to buy new knives for melee attacks, as well as enhancements to help their character survive.

Enemies
No game like this is complete without a large number of enemies to shoot and kill. On the left side of the camp is a NPC you can speak to that allows you to look at a Compendium of the enemies you have killed at least once. Each enemy will have their HP listed, as well as any weaknesses and items it can drop.
